Sci-fi thriller “Alien: Romulus” continues to top China’s box office chart

BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — 20th Century Studios’ sci-fi thriller “Alien: Romulus” continued to lead the Chinese mainland’s daily box office for the seventh consecutive day on Friday, according to the China Movie Data Information Network.
The movie, which is the seventh installment of the successful “Alien” franchise, grossed over 40.31 million yuan (about 5.65 million U.S. dollars) on the day.
It tells the story of a group of young space colonists who encounter the universe’s most terrifying life form while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.
The new drama film “The Hedgehog” directed by renowned Chinese director Gu Changwei ranked second on the chart with a revenue of 31.93 million yuan on its first day of screening Friday.
The film focuses on the friendship story between a stuttering and rebellious teenager and his eccentric uncle.
The domestic crime drama “Untouchable” featuring comic star Shen Teng came in third as it hit the screens on Friday, earning 22.07 million yuan.
The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland on Friday hit 149.74 million yuan. ■
